In 2024, PMH Studio pursued a new type of project: the interior design of railway passenger cars. This is one of our first two car designs for the Hanoi – Lao Cai railway line, serving passengers to Sapa, ordered by Chapa Express; a service provider providing luxury mobile accommodations for tourists.
The design is inspired by the trekking journey between the valley and mountains of Sapa, passing through the green terraced rice fields and then returning to the rustic house of the people. We want to convey an experience of the Northwest mountains and forests and the pure natural features of the living space of the people here.
This is also a breakthrough in the structure of traditional Vietnamese carriages, from the previous 4 or 6-bed cabins to a large room made up of two old cabins combined together. Cabin equipment is raised to a new level, with double beds for couples or families with small children; seats, and tables and shelves to place guest services such as drinks… This structural change along with a new, emotional design has created luxury cabins, almost 5 stars, to help visitors have perfect experiences in their travel journey.
The carriage was highly appreciated by the railway industry and was visited and filmed by the BBC as visual material for their comming documentary on Vietnam.
